Sticky Asian Tofu

This simple home-style Asian dish is saucy and sticky and oh so tasty, absolutely scrumptious served over steamed rice or on its own as a post-workout snack (that’s how much I love this dish!). Ingredients

2 tbsp sesame oil
1 block firm tofu, cut into 1cm cubes (drain the tofu well on kitchen paper before cutting it)
3-4 spring onions, finely diced
2 stalks lemongrass, finely chopped
2-3 cloves garlic, minced
1 large piece of ginger, sliced and diced
2 tbsps hot sriracha sauce
3 tbsps liquid aminos/tamari
3 tsp maple syrup
Juice of 2 limes
1/4 cup cornflour
Salt and pepper to taste
Sesame seeds for garnish

 

Method

 

1. Add 1 tbsp of sesame oil to a cast iron skillet over medium heat, followed by the spring onions, lemon grass, ginger and garlic, sauté for 5 minutes until it has begun to brown.
3. Add the sriracha sauce,liquid aminos, maple syrup and lemon juice. Allow to reduce on a low heat.
4. Sprinkle the cornflour over the tofu cubes and toss to coat. Add 1 tbsp of sesame oil to another cast iron skillet over medium heat, fry the tofu until golden brown.
5. Add the sauce to the tofu. It should become sticky.
5.Add a handful of sesame seeds and serve hot over rice!
